7 benefits of wax melts over candles

Wondering what the difference is between a wax melt and a candle? Wax melts and candles are both made from a wide range of waxes, including Soy wax, Beeswax, or Paraffin wax. What makes wax melts and candles so different is the way the fragrance that they hold is released into your home.

Wax Melt Overview:

Wax melts are chunks of wax that hold a particular fragrance and are available in a range of shapes, including hearts, flowers, snap bars, and clamshells. The shape of a wax melt doesn’t affect the scent throw but rather the type of wax used and how much fragrance has been added to the wax melt.

How is the fragrance released from a wax melt?

To release the fragrance of a wax melt, place it within a wax melt burner, whether that is a tealight or electric version. Both versions achieve the same end result, but a tealight burner uses the heat from a tea light positioned under the wax melt burner container to melt the wax, while an electric burner uses electricity to power a lightbulb, which generates heat and melts the wax melt.

As the wax melt begins to melt, the fragrance is slowly released into the air, filling the room with that particular scent.

Candle Overview:

Candles, on the other hand, work completely differently from wax melts in how they release fragrance into the room. Typically, candle jars are made from glass and filled with wax, which has fragrance mixed in and has a cotton or wood wick in the center of the candle jar. When the candle is lit, the wax surrounding the wick melts and is drawn through the wick. As the liquid wax is drawn through the wick and makes contact with the flame, the wax is burned away, releasing the fragrance into the air.

Now that we have briefly gone over and explained the difference between wax melts and candles, here are 7 benefits of wax melts over candles:

No Flame

Unlike candles, wax melts don’t require a flame. If you are using an electric wax melt burner, you will be using electricity to generate heat and melt the wax to release the fragrance. Not only is this a safer option, but it is also more convenient as you can turn the electric burner on and off at your convenience.

Longer Burn Time

Wax melts can hold a stronger concentration of fragrance oil compared to candles. As they are heated within a wax melt burner or warmer, the fragrance is released slowly, helping prolong the overall burn time of the wax melt.

Cheaper Option to Candles

Wax melts require fewer components to make compared to candles, making them cheaper to produce. The concentration of fragrance in wax melts also means you get a stronger scent throw, allowing the wax melt to be used multiple times.

Fragrance Strength Control

With wax melts, you can choose how much wax you want to melt, which directly impacts the scent throw. More wax provides a stronger scent throw, while less wax results in a weaker scent throw. Different shapes and sizes of wax melts offer varying control options.

Stronger Scent Throw

Wax melts can hold more fragrance than candles, providing a stronger scent throw and increasing the overall burn time.

No Soot

Wax melts don't create any soot because they are melted over heat to create a wax pool, helping to avoid the creation of soot.

Pet and Children Friendly

Wax melts are considered a safer option to candles since they don't have a naked flame. However, as a safety precaution, it's advised to place wax melt burners in a location that can't be reached by pets or children.

Are wax melts healthier than candles?

Wax melts made from paraffin wax can release toxins such as benzene and toluene when burned, which are not healthy to breathe in. Opt for wax melts made from soy or beeswax, as they are healthier options that don't release toxic chemicals when burnt and are more environmentally sustainable.

All of our wax melts made here at Blissful Moments are 100% soy wax, sustainably sourced, and eco-friendly. This allows us to create incredibly high-quality wax melts that offer the strongest scent throw possible.
